Are our simple interactions with our fellow man akin to covenants? When someone interacts with us in the slightest way, a smile, a "hello", do they place a trust upon us? Do they hope, even if they don't realize that they do, that they will not be spurned?

If Christ interacts with us, is he, by manifesting himself to us, placing in us a trust of life and truth, not because we raise our right arm or utter an incantation, but just by virtue of our interaction with him?

Likewise, if the least of these is the Lord, should our interactions with each other be held like a sacred trust, even if they turn and rend us, or regardless of what they do, it is our duty to hold their interaction with us as sacred.

Life interacting with life. The sacred interacting with the sacred. It's interesting to consider whether this is a covenant.

I wrote the above, and had a nagging desire for days to look up the etymology of "covenant".

"c. 1300, from Old French covenant "agreement," originally present participle of covenir "agree, meet," from Latin convenire "come together" (see convene)."1

The Greek word for covenant can also be translated as "testament," something which testifies. God revealing himself we understand many things about God we didn't know before. God vouchsafe's knowledge about himself.
