"Yea, at the time that he shall yield up the ghost there shall be thunderings and lightnings for the space of many hours, and the earth shall shake and tremble; and the rocks which are upon the face of this earth, which are both above the earth and beneath, which ye know at this time are solid, or the more part of it is one solid mass, shall be broken up; Yea, they shall be rent in twain, and shall ever after be found in seams and in cracks, and in broken fragments upon the face of the whole earth, yea, both above the earth and beneath. And behold, there shall be great tempests, and there shall be many mountains laid low, like unto a valley, and there shall be many places which are now called valleys which shall become mountains, whose height is great."

We can see the result of this catastrophic tumult today in broken seams on and under the earth. This literal sign ought to give us pause as we take on faith our standing before God. How catastrophic will it be when we thought ourselves great and chosen, ready to enter the highest heaven and yet become low like a valley: and valleys which we considered lowly and of no worth, become mighty mountains? We will be broken into seams and fragments in that day

"Surely, your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay." (Isaiah 29:16)

"Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people." (Proverbs 50:3-4)

"And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence." (Luke 16:24-26)

How appropriate and sad "beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot." God does not erect a fence or put us into cubby holes with limiting boundaries. We create the gulf ourselves. When we put up stakes and call that which is of God, of the devil, and then comfort ourselves with vain and foolish doctrine. When vainness and foolishness is what we are willing to understand and comprehend, those that wish to bring cooling water to quench our thirst are not welcome, in fact they are by rule, stoned, hung, sawn asunder and have to hide themselves in the dens and caves of the earth. They are not understood to be your greatest friends and advocates on earth. What a lament by Christ voicing Abraham, akin to "my burden is light."
