"the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased." (D&C 1:30)

You cannot read that, divorced from this:

"Behold, this is my doctrine—whosoever repenteth and cometh unto me, the same is my church. Whosoever declareth more or less than this, the same is not of me, but is against me; therefore he is not of my church." (D&C 10:66-68)

What is it that needed to be brought forth "out of obscurity and out of darkness" that perhaps to many minds are still dark and to which it is still obscure?

The church was true in 1831, because there were actually people were repenting and coming unto Christ. It is living, because He is the true vine and they were alive because they heard his voice, and kept his word which he spoke to them individually. (D&C 93:1-4)

You also cannot say that 1:30 is for all time, and that previous to, or shortly after there were/are not others, not affiliated with the LDS charter, that began to repent and come unto Christ. You can read it, however with some degree of astonishment from the Lord, that it is the only true church on the face of the whole earth.
