A certain man was brought before a court to determine whether he followed the one true prophet, seer and revelator. The man objected to his worship of God being circumscribed by false priests. He came and stood before these priests and reasoned his objections before them, using their own scriptures to witness against their abuse. These priests excommunicated the man and his excommunication was heard far and wide. "This is what we must do to further remove the authority of these priests," reasoned the man to others who were likewise seeking refuge.

Time passed and this man's devotion to a new messenger grew above all else. The messenger came with pure knowledge and opened the eyes of the blind and set beggars at the king's table. This man sat at the feet and listened to the messenger's words without discriminating, and listened as if they were God's own words. He set up a standard of safety whither other outcasts could resort for safety, trusting in the standard. He published pamphlets decrying the abuses of those who cast him out and mocked their pretended authority.

Others who were likewise cast out, or quietly left the false priests, raised an objection. "You have left the false priests, only to establish a new priesthood without authority. You have overthrown the doctrine of Christ by your standard and by claiming it as your own and are telling us likewise that you have a sure way, that if they flock to the standard of safety, that they cannot be led astray, and they have abandoned their duty before God. We ought to trust God and get his witness and not yours."

The response of this man and his fellow priests was to say, "Frankly, you have no idea what you're taking about. You are contentious.  Why are you still here? Why are you using the scriptures against our understanding of our one true messenger from God?" These other outcasts objected further using scriptures as their witness, asking for a hand of friendship and not a hand of abusive authority. The answer was "Depart from us you unclean before you pollute our opportunity for Zion."

Late one night a voice was heard, "Have I not power enough to save mine? Why have you cast out those you should have borne with? I sent them to try your patience and to bring you low, not to bear with them because you are great, but because my least are. I was trying to help you become likewise. Those who are esteemed as naught have I declared to be my own, worlds without end, but by your own words and actions, you have cut off that which could have saved." The man protested and said he had a promise, and in reply, the voice said "The words you used to cast the least away, whose voices you have silenced was not even read carefully enough to warrant any such promise. How could it have? Those false priests who cut you off from their association did so because of generations of unbelief. They feared that which they did not have the courage to understand. You had it in your heart that you were better than these false priests, but have you not read, those who are esteemed less are valued as greater? I sent a messenger to you to deliver pure knowledge, and you were wise to hear my voice, which set the prisoners free, but when I ceased to speak, or when I spoke and gave ordinances that were not good for you, why did you follow? Is your faith misplaced? This is my strange act, and it will come to pass, that man should not rely any more on his fellow man, and the proud and the haughty shall be brought low as they see my strange ways roll forth."
