Tonight I was praying in gratitude, and for the blessing of myself and others when these thoughts came to me.

In 1830 the Lord called the church "true and living."1  By 1832 the Lord stated that the church is "condemned,"2 yet the fulness continued until at least March of 1835.3 By 1841 the Lord said He had taken the fullness of the priesthood away from the church and the Lord threatened to reject us because of our indifference to what he offered.4

The church is the church and it has preserved much—enough for one who seeks to understand by what means they may be partakers of blessings like Abraham,5 who found himself in possession of the records of the fathers.6

This is what I believe: the Gospel is absolutely true. The Book of Mormon is absolutely true. The Bible is true inasmuch as it has not been altered by uninspired men through history (see Revelation 22:18-19). Joseph Smith was a real prophet. He communed with Jehovah.7

The church has neglected a great deal about the restoration, and we hold on to less and less as our treasures become slippery.8 The church cannot save you, it's leaders can't, only Christ can.9 The Book of Mormon, the Bible, Joseph Smith all testify it is our privilege and duty to come behold Jesus face-to-face. He is the Second Comforter,10 he has renewed that promise to us, that He and his Father will take up their abode with us.11 That He will sup with us12 and speak to us in plain humility13. Joseph is not on trial, we are. Joseph proved James 1:5.

I address this to those on the highway, the outcasts, those esteemed as poor, lowly, or of no consequence to man.14 Those who were invited, would not come to the wedding feast.15 It is to you God has promised to work in power.16 The Gospel is true. Seek no more to eat husks,17 but search into, and contemplate how great things the Lord has in store for you, personally.18 There are treasures that await. Be humble, Do not fear. The people, who Melchizedek found himself among, were wicked.19 But they heard the message this man delivered from God and they knew there was more. They exercised faith in their creator, they filled themselves with light and knowledge which cast out those spirits which troubled them.20 They sought for Enoch's Zion which had been taken up into heaven before the flood.21 They arose and roared like lions out of the wilderness.22 Be like unto them. Arise, seek and fill yourself with light and knowledge.23

Do not let the example of men dissuade you from seeking your God.24 His ways are not our ways.25 He does not run a corporation, he speaks to individuals like Billy Hibbard,26 Benjamin Abbott27 and Norris Stearns.28 Man does not and cannot have a franchise on God. He is meek and lowly of heart.29 He condemns no man,30 but calls to us to arise and stand forth.31

But wo unto the prideful who fear not God, who deny that salvation is through faith on Christ alone, who place a stumbling block before His children,32 who enter not in themselves, and those that are entering, they hinder.33 The wise, the learned and the rich who believe themselves the choicest of heaven, to them he will not open.34 Let this probation not be a disappointment to you,35 but seek until you obtain grace,36 For He is full of grace and truth.37 If he was not, I would have no hope.

"And, finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me, I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same; having been myself a follower of righteousness, desiring also to be one who possessed great knowledge, and to be a greater follower of righteousness, and to possess a greater knowledge, and to be a father of many nations, a prince of peace, and desiring to receive instructions, and to keep the commandments of God, I became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers." (Abraham 1:2)

"But the records of the fathers, even the patriarchs, concerning the right of Priesthood, the Lord my God preserved in mine own hands; therefore a knowledge of the beginning of the creation, and also of the planets, and of the stars, as they were made known unto the fathers, have I kept even unto this day, and I shall endeavor to write some of these things upon this record, for the benefit of my posterity that shall come after me." (Abraham 1:31)

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" (JSH 1:16-17)

And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell." (Alma 12:10-11)

(Joseph Smith, King Follet Discourse, TPJS p. 357) Note, we do this to ourselves. Our hopes and expectations are dashed. Yet we are not forever cast off, but we have lost an opportunity.
