The Constitution was established by God. The means by which this came to pass was brought about was by the suffering of men through the ages. Some of these men asked why. They were inspired, each as to a part as to the remedies to this suffering. Each one receiving a part of the whole, some receiving more than others because of their diligence, faithfulness, self-inspection and charity toward others. The founding fathers were similar men. They were the recipients, by their diligence to sacred writings and of men and suffering gone by. You can read the transcripts of the conventions these men held in the early days of our country and see the pains they took to become familiar with history and the perplexities of nations.

We received this document as a standard. It created a republic by which all were held accountable equally to this heavenly standard. All, as contemplated by this constitution, meaning almost exclusively, the leaders of this Federal system.

We have abandoned this system in favor of becoming more and more a democracy until our country is only the most superficial representation of the original, which could only fool the extremely ignorant. What was given by faithfulness, diligence, suffering and inspiration has been sold like a mess of pottage while we play video games and take oaths to defend something we know nothing about.1

The democracy we have set up in its place is like so much of the ubiquitous opinion polling we see that "leaders" of all organizational types employ today. As one person put it, a leader who makes his decisions by opinion polling is just a clever follower. We have followers leading followers, like a snake that consumes its own tail. We have set up truth in the image of ourselves. We, the great multitude of ignorant and devilish beings (I'm talking about all of us, not just those who get tattoos) have set ourselves up as the image or idol to which we worship. The standard by which we judge ourselves is ourselves. And many of us, who use the standard given to us by those "leaders", who use the tools of opinion polling and marketing, claim that by these standards we will rise up to the sides of the north and be like unto the Most High.2

We measure righteousness by whatever it is we do.3

Notes

1. "...nothing is a greater injury to the children of men than to be under the influence of a false spirit when they think they have the Spirit of God. Thousands have felt the influence of its terrible power and baneful effects. Long pilgrimages have been undertaken, penances endured, and pain, misery and ruin have followed in their train; nations have been convulsed, kingdoms overthrown, provinces laid waste, and blood, carnage and desolation are habiliments in which it has been clothed." (Joseph Smith, HC vol. 4, ch. 33)

2. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High." (Isaiah 14:12-14 , 2 Nephi 24:12-14)

3. "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:" (Revelation 3:17)
