There are many ways to interpret the scriptures, and because you've settled on one interpretation, doesn't necessarily mean it's correct and includes all the nuances God had in mind when he gave it.

I would also add that Ezekiel 14 and 20 kind of destroys any ability to set in stone that God means and intends anything given to us by prophets, and it's only the individual's responsibility to rise and fall according to what is in their heart.

At the very least, I would refrain from using the scripture to beat people over the heads, people can only be persuaded by "pure knowledge" and "love unfeigned", and even then, it's their option to respond or not.
